Senator Flanagan Welcomes DDI Teachers Back To School

John J. Flanagan

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District), who recently announced that he has secured $135,000 in state funding for Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI), visited the organization's Smithtown campusto wish the teachers, therapists and support staff good luck in the coming year. The funding secured by Senator Flanagan will be used to offset the cost of improvements to the facility in Smithtown.

Over the past few years, Senator Flanagan has secured over $300,000 in grants to fund urgently needed construction projects at DDI’s Hollywood Drive campus in Smithtown. Improvements have included the expansion of DDI’s on-site parking facility; several renovated classrooms heavily utilized by the Children’s Day Program, including new floors, new cabinets, new lights, new exterior classroom doors and new energy efficient windows; as well as the installation of new equipment in the gymnasium.

Senator Flanagan has established close relationships with DDI in his time in the Senate. He has also been a leader in the fight to achieve state funding and legislation that benefits individuals with disabilities.

"Working with the DDI family has allowed me to provide some assistance to a very important organization. The work that everyone accomplishes everyday makes a great impact on the lives of the children they touch and they are to be commended for their efforts," stated Senator Flanagan. "It has been a pleasure to work with them and I look forward to continuing our partnership."

DDI will be honoring Senator Flanagan at their November 17th Stars Gala & Casino Night for his continuing support of DDI. For further information, please visit www.ddiinfo.org or call 631-366-2904.
