José M. Serrano

New York, May 12- Today State Senator José M. Serrano, (D-Manhattan/Bronx), celebrated Mother’s Day with the seniors at the Leonard Covello Senior Center in the heart of East Harlem. The Senator attended a special reception for the center’s residents, and brought along a cake from the famous Valencia Bakery to share with the crowd. The celebration included live music provided by a salsa band, as well as dancing.

"It’s truly an honor to be here among the matriarchs of this community. It’s important to remember not only our mothers on this holiday, but all the strong and dedicated women who have helped build this community. We should thank them for their contribution every day of the year," said the Senator, who was surrounded by residents eager to share their stories with him.

The Leonard Covello Senior Center is located on E.109th Street, and serves a large number of East Harlem seniors.
