Serrano Attends Mural Opening
State Senator Jose M. Serrano (D-Manhattan/Bronx) joined members of Hope Community, Inc. and the Groundswell Community Mural Project to celebrate a new mural in the Lexington Avenue community garden between 123rd and 124th Streets.
"Deja Vu: Which Path Will You Choose" was painted throughout the summer by lead muralist Eduardo Alexander Rabel, assistant Alex Pimienta and 15 young adults recruited by Hope Community. The mural focuses on the challenges faced by adolescents in East Harlem, and the need to make positive choices on the path to adulthood.
"Murals do not just beautify our community, but also provide us with the message and the motivation to lead better lives," said Senator Serrano. "Eduardo and his team have created a beautiful piece of art, one that makes us ever more proud of East Harlem's rich past and bright future."
