Serrano Celebrates Metropolitan Hospital

Senator Jose M. Serrano (D-Manhattan/Bronx) joined Congressman Charles B. Rangel and other elected leaders in a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Metropolitan Hospital. The new $2.95 million rehabilitation unit, featuring state-of-the-art technology, will enhance access and quality of care for East Harlem residents.

"At this moment in time, health disparities remain high for minority residents, and our public hospitals are threatened with budgets cuts," said the Senator. "I commend the administrators and staff at Metropolitan for demonstrating once again how essential they are to the community."

The Senator returned to the hospital later in the evening to speak at the "Support Metropolitan Hospital Community Forum." The Senator is helping to mobilize the community in advance of a December report by the controversial Governor's Commission on Healthcare Facilities in the 21^st Century.
