Senator Robach To Host Nascar Exhibit At Monroe County Fair

Joseph E. Robach

Senator Joe Robach today announced that he will be hosting a special NASCAR exhibit from Watkins Glen International raceway featuring an authentic stock car and racing simulator at the upcoming Monroe County Fair.

The exhibit celebrates the 20th Anniversary of NASCAR racing at Watkins Glen International and continues the Senators’ efforts to raise awareness about the NASCAR Foundation, which supports a wide range of worthy causes such as enriching the lives of chronically ill children, expanding literacy, encouraging bone marrow donation, and fighting cancer.

"Bringing this display to the Monroe County Fair is so exciting for Rochester area NASCAR fans. This will be a great family event that kids and parents can enjoy together while also supporting an extremely worthy cause" said Senator Robach.

The State Senate passed a resolution earlier this year recognizing NASCAR Day 2006 in New York State. The cornerstone of the celebration is the distribution of collectible NASCAR Day lapel pins, which fans and other supporters can obtain in exchange for a $5 donation to the NASCAR Foundation.

NASCAR racing returns to Watkins Glen International in one month, featuring the stars of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series like Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jimmy Johnson. The Zippo 200 NASCAR Busch Series race is also back for a second year on Saturday, August 12 with the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series taking center stage on Sunday, August 13th. Information on tickets can be found on TheGlen.com or by calling 866-461-RACE.

"We truly appreciate the support we have received from our State Senators and are thrilled to work with them as we prepare for our upcoming NASCAR weekend and unveil our new NASCAR show car," stated Craig Rust, President of Watkins Glen International. "We are looking forward to celebrating 20 years of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series racing at the track this August."

Watkins Glen International will unveil their new 2006 show car and kick-off the "Racing, Only Twisted Tour" this week at the Monroe County Fair. The show car is the #39 NASCAR Busch Series Penske Truck Leasing car driven by Kurt Busch. The car will run at Watkins Glen International on August 12th.

The exhibit will be open on Thursday, July 13 from 4 p.m. - 11 p.m. and on Friday, July 14, 2006 from 12 noon - 11 p.m.
