American Red Cross Celebrates 100 Years

Brooklyn- The Brooklyn Chapter of the American Red Cross recently honored State Senator Marty Golden, Basil Capetanakis and WWRL 1600 AM, at their 100th Anniversary Dinner Dance celebration held at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardents last week.

In his remarks, Senator Golden spoke of the significant impact that the American Red Cross has made throughout Brooklyn, New York City and our Nation over the years. He referenced his work with the American Red Cross as both a New York City Police Officer and as an elected official.

Senator Golden stated, "Let us not forget September 11, 2001. Let us never forget the work, the man hours, the labor and the dedication of the American Red Cross. Month after month, the American Red Cross was mobilized at Ground Zero providing assistance to our emergency services. Day after day, night after night, week after week, the volunteers of the American Red Cross stood as the backbone of the relief effort at Ground Zero, a testament to the spirit of volunteerism which you have spread throughout our City, our State and our Nation."

Golden continued in his address to the Red Cross, "And since September 11, 2001, when the need has arose, when tragedy has struck, when we as a world have stumbled and have fallen, again, it was the American Red Cross that has picked us up. It was the American Red Cross that aided New York City and the East Coast of the country when the lights went out in August, 2004. It was the American Red Cross that aided and responded when a Tsunami struck in Asia. It was the American Red Cross, you and your associates, that answered the calls to help that came from the South following the Hurricanes of Katrina, Rita and Wilma."
