Brooklyn Veterans Get Tall Salute

Brooklyn- State Senator Marty Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Veteran and Military Affairs, today issued the following statement upon learning that the Department of Veteran’s Affairs will keep operational the Veteran’s Administration hospital in Brooklyn:

"By keeping the Veteran’s Administration Hospital open in Brooklyn, the United States Department of Veteran Affairs has recognized that this hospital has long played a vital role in providing essential and quality health care to the veterans of Brooklyn and New York City. To close the doors in the face of a veteran seeking care or prescription drugs, is contradictory to our nation’s philosophy which seeks to honor and show our appreciation for our brave men and women of the armed forces."

"I commend Congressman Vito Fossella for his efforts and for his strong advocacy in support of the Brooklyn V.A. Hospital. Working together, we have prevented a decrease in services which would have been an insult to the men and women who have so bravely fought so that we can live in freedom. The veterans of New York City deserve the best opportunities available to address their health care needs. Keeping this hospital open is the very least we can do to say thank you to our veterans for their service in defense of our freedoms. For our aging veterans, a longer commute to meet their medical needs was the wrong approach."
