Nyc Transit To Monitor 4th Avenue In Response To Complaints About Excessive Number Of Buses
Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C-I, 22nd District) today is announcing that the New York City Transit Authority will take action to aid in the reduction of the excessive number of out-of-service buses traveling along 4th Avenue disturbing the quality of life of all residents.
Senator Golden contacted NYC Transit President Lawrence Reuter after receiving numerous complaints from residents of 4th Avenue that in recent months, out-of-service buses have been traveling along the avenue which has caused both congestion and has made the avenue more dangerous for pedestrians and vehicular traffic. The out-of-service buses are from the Jackie Gleason Bus Depot and should only be using 4th Avenue during the times in which they are going into and/or out of service.
In response, the New York City Transit Authority has informed Senator Golden that they have directed management at the Jackie Gleason Depot to inform all operators that only those bus runs specifically designated to enter or go out of service via 4th Avenue may travel on that street. The Brooklyn Road Operations unit will also continue to periodically monitor the area for compliance by our operators, and pursue violations by their personnel, to insure that only those permitted utilize 4th Avenue.
Senator Golden stated, "I am grateful to see that the NYC Transit Authority has recognized the severity of this report and will be taking action to insure that the least number, and only the permissible out-of-service buses, travel down 4th Avenue in route to and from the Jackie Gleason Depot. Any violations of this are unacceptable and endanger the health and safety of all residents, students, shoppers, motorists and worshippers."
