Senator Golden Announces Additional Service On B-16

Martin J. Golden

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, Brooklyn), today is announcing that the New York City Transit Authority has responded to his request seeking service adjustments on the B-16 bus route and that they will take effect in January 2007 to better reflect traffic patterns along the route.

In his reply letter to Senator Golden, New York City Transit Authority President Lawrence Reuter wrote, "As you requested, we recently investigated service on this route and found that additional running time is necessary to address increasing traffic conditions and improve service reliability."

Senator Golden had been in contact with the New York City Transit Authority in late November after receiving a petition from local residents urging better and more efficient service on the B-16 bus route. Complaints raised included lack of adherence to the bus schedule published by the NYC Transit Authority, as well as the frequency of the schedule. Golden requested that the NYC Transit Authority consider increasing service on this route and ensuring adherence as best as possible to the schedule.

Senator Golden stated, "I commend the New York City Transit Authority for their swift response to my request and on behalf of those who ride the B-16, I thank them. Maintaining efficient transportation service is a top priority of mine and working with the New York City Transit Authority, we have addressed a serious service problem that negatively impacted many throughout Brooklyn. I look forward to seeing the service adjustments implemented in January, 2007 on the B-16 bus route and thus improving the traveling conditions and bus ride for many who use it to get to work, medical appointments, shopping and other reasons."

Larry Reuter encourages residents to contact the Bus Customer Relations Center directly with questions, suggestions, or complaints regarding New York City Transit bus service. The toll-free number is 1-888-NYCT-BUS (1-888-692-8287), with managers and supervisors on duty Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Voice mail is available at all other times.

The B-16 bus route begins at 4th Avenue and Shore Road and continues through Borough Park and Kensington and the route ends at Prospect-Lefferts Gardens.
