Senator Golden Announces Donation Of Computers To Two Brooklyn Schools

Martin J. Golden

Brooklyn – Senator Martin Golden (R-C, Brooklyn) today announced that St. Patrick’s School and Our Lady of Grace School both of Brooklyn will receive a total of 20 refurbished computers to support the schools’ educational programs. The computers were made available through a state program administered by the New York Power Authority (NYPA).

“Computers are an essential resource in today’s technology driven learning environment,” said Senator Golden. “The donation of these computers will help our young students at St. Patrick’s and Our Lady of Grace prepare for tomorrow’s educational challenges today.”

The computers donated to the two schools were provided through a state law that created a program authorizing NYPA to provide refurbished computers to educational institutions across New York State.

At St. Patrick’s our philosophy is to cultivate an educational atmosphere that promotes intellectual and social development skills while assuring that our students experience the joys of learning,” said Andrea D’Emic, Principal. “These refurbished computers will assist in the development of our students, thanks to Senator Golden.”

“Our Lady of Grace School is committed to the importance of self-discipline, responsibility and the use of good judgment in the educational process,” said Joan McMaster, Principal. “Thanks to Senator Golden, the smart re-use of these donated computers will provide our students with tools to help them compete academically and individually in a complex society.”

The reconditioning of surplus computers includes thorough cleaning of the equipment, replacement of any broken or missing parts, as well as installation of a new operating system and at least 128 megabytes of memory.

Since 2002, NYPA has donated computers to educational facilities throughout New York State and has reconditioned some 500 computers for distribution since the program’s inception.
