Senator Golden Hosts Memorial Day Salute To Brooklyn Veterans

Brooklyn- State Senator Martin J. Golden (R-C, 22nd District), a member of the State Senate Committee on Homeland Security, Veteran and Military Affairs, recently hosted a Memorial Day salute and awards ceremony for veterans of Kings County.

Senator Golden was joined by Fort Hamilton Army Base commander Tracey E. Nicholson. Golden honored the following Veteran organizations for all their work and effort to assist Brooklyn Veterans and those returning from the War in Iraq and the Brooklyn Veteran’s Administration Hospital:

*Brooklyn Key Chapter of New York, American Ex-Prisoners of War

*Korean War Veterans, Chapter 171

*Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 72

*Military Order of the Purple Heart

* Disabled War Veterans

Senator Golden also memorialized Edward Cush, the late Commander of the Kings County American Legion and Chairman of the Brooklyn Memorial Day Parade, who passed away last week.

In his remarks, Senator Golden stated, "We must appreciate and support the more than 25 million living American veterans, many of whom put their lives on the line to preserve our freedoms. Our veterans served on the land, at sea, and in the air, from the shores of Omaha Beach and the jungles of Vietnam, to the sands of the Persian Gulf, in Korea, in the mountains of Afghanistan, and many other battlefields around the globe. Our proud veterans have also helped to shape the American character. They have given us an extraordinary legacy of patriotism and honor, and their service represents the highest form of citizenship."
