Senator Dilan Holds Immigration Forum

Martin Malavé Dilan

State Senator Martin MalavÈ Dilan recently provided individuals who had questions or concerns about their immigration status with an opportunity to speak to a lawyer or counselor and have their questions answered.

Senator Dilan worked in conjunction with the North Brooklyn Community Council (NBCC) and the City University of New York (CUNY) to provide staff offering legal advice, citizenship and naturalization information, as well as assistance to establish identity documentations. The program also provided assistance with non-immigrant visas and lawful permanent residency.

"This was an excellent opportunity for those with concerns or questions about their immigrant status to speak to an expert and receive some sound advice. I am pleased to be a part of providing this service to people so they can be confident about the legal issues they deal with on a daily basis," Senator Dilan said.

The NBCC typically serves the communities of Northern Bushwick, Bedford Stuyvesant and East New York. However, this program, and similar programs dealing with immigration have been open to residents from across New York City. Senator Dilan often works jointly with NBCC in order to provide programs and services that are valuable to all residents of North Brooklyn throughout the year.

"I appreciate the hard work Jannitza D. Luna, the Executive Director of NBCC, and her staff do on behalf of the residents of North Brooklyn. Be on the lookout for more events like these from NBCC and my Senate office that provide people in Brooklyn with knowledge and tools to help with their daily lives," Senator Dilan concluded.
