Michael F. Nozzolio

Albany – The New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA) has named Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) its “Legislator of the Year”.

“This is a truly great honor and I thank NYSCOPBA for this recognition,” said Senator Nozzolio. “Our correctional officers walk the toughest beat in law enforcement and it is a pleasure to fight on the behalf of the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect our communities and families. As Chairman of the Senate Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections Committee, I remain committed to aggressively representing the interests of New York’s correctional officers.”

Senator Nozzolio has sponsored legislation concerning correctional officers and their working conditions throughout his tenure in the State legislature. As the longtime Chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Corrections Committee, Senator Nozzolio has advocated for the construction of additional maximum security prisons, has supported initiatives to increase workplace safety for prison employees and secured state funding for equipment and communication upgrades in New York’s prisons. This year, Senator Nozzolio was successful in calling for the release of correctional officer pay raises and retroactive payments that were being delayed by the State Comptroller.

Larry Flanagan, President of NYSCOPBA, said, “We are pleased to honor Senator Nozzolio as our Legislator of the Year for his leadership and strong commitment to New York’s correctional officers. Our correctional officers know that there is no better advocate in the Senate than Mike Nozzolio and this award represents our many thanks for his years of support.”

Senator Nozzolio will be honored by NYSCOPBA at a ceremony to be held on October 4, 2006 in Liverpool, NY.
