Michael F. Nozzolio

Geneva– Calling it a great day for the City of Geneva and its surrounding communities, New York State Senator Michael F. Nozzolio (R-Fayette) today announced he has secured a $500,000 State grant for a new Community Center in Geneva. The community center will be operated by the Boys & Girls Club of Geneva and will be conveniently located on over 14 acres near the Geneva High School and Middle School.

“This is a great day for all of the children and families in Geneva and the nearby towns,” Senator Nozzolio said. “I couldn’t be more pleased to be able to secure this funding for a new Community Center in Geneva. When completed, this much needed multi-purpose facility will be enjoyed and utilized by all segments of our community and will be a wonderful place for after-school activities, swimming, sporting clubs and events, meetings and much, much more.”

Construction on the new Community Center is planned to begin in the fall of 2007. The 20,000 square foot facility will have a full-size gymnasium, classrooms, technology room, a performing arts center, as well as rooms dedicated to art, music, and fitness. The intergenerational facility will also have outdoor trails and provide recreational programs for youths, adults and senior citizens.

Rich Rising, City of Geneva Manager said, “On the behalf of the residents of the City of Geneva, I would like to thank Senator Nozzolio for his commitment and generous support. His leadership has been integral to what will become an excellent, multi-use facility for the entire community. The children and families of Geneva will benefit greatly from all of the events and programs that will be offered once the center is completed."

Don Cass, Mayor of Geneva said “I certainly think the new Geneva Community Center is a great idea and I appreciate Senator Nozzolio’s efforts in securing this important funding.”

Since 2000, The Boys & Girls Club of Geneva has run a teen center on Castle Street, helping hundreds of Geneva’s youths. Programs have helped students plan for future education and jobs and provided community service opportunities. The success of the teen center necessitated the need for a larger facility that could accommodate more individuals and provide increased activities.

Mark Venuti, local attorney and Member of the Board of Directors for The Boys & Girls Club of Geneva said “Senator Nozzolio has been a great friend to the Boys and Girls Club and the entire City of Geneva. This community center is another big step forward for our community and it wouldn’t be possible without Senator Nozzolio’s efforts to secure such a substantial grant to allow this project to move forward.”

The mission of The Boys and Girls Club of Geneva is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
