East Chatham Fire Co. Recognizes Senator Saland For $50,000 In Funding For New Pumper

Stephen M. Saland

Members of the East Chatham Fire Co. recognized Senator Saland for a $50,000 grant he secured to assist in the purchase of a new fire truck. The fire department used the funding to purchase a 1,000 gallon pumper tanker, equipped with a high powered deluge gun, Jaws of Life extrication tools and will seat six firefighters.

"On behalf of the East Chatham Fire Co., I'd like to thank Senator Saland for his help in making the purchase of the tanker possible," said Fire Chief Alan Besterman. "This new truck is a state of the art piece of equipment that will provide a new level of fire protection to the East Chatham Community. The truck will stress safety with all hose lines being mounted in the bumpers at ground level, reflective striping and paint and extra lighting that will offer greater safety and advanced warning when operating on the NY State Thruway. Senator Saland's help in acquiring this funding has allowed us to save taxpayers thousands of dollars and maintain a satisfying budget for the district. We are appreciative of his efforts on our behalf."

"I am pleased to be able to provide funding to the East Chatham Fire Co. for the pumper tanker," said Senator Saland. "The protection and piece of mind that these volunteers give to the community is immeasurable. This new vehicle will assist them as they selflessly work to safeguard the lives and property of those whom they serve."
