Senator Saland Repeals Dmv Inspection Sticker Program

Senator Steve Saland (R,C Poughkeepsie) announced that he and his Senate colleagues were successful in their efforts to have the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) cancel its new policy regarding the expiration of inspection stickers.

The new policy, which went into effect in January, provided that inspection stickers would have expired in the first, second or third portion of the month in the year following inspection, depending on the date of issuance.

"This policy made the motor vehicle inspection process much more complicated than was necessary," Senator Saland said. "New Yorkers do not need another complicated bureaucratic mandate to deal with. I applaud the DMV’s decision to withdrawal this program."

Discussions began in early February between members of the Senate, the Assembly and DMV, urging the withdrawal of the policy change. In addition to those discussions, legislation (S.6426) was introduced that would provide consumers with the option to renew their inspections anytime during the month of expiration.
