Senator Saland's Legislation To Establish Red Hook Community Preservation Fund Passes Senate

Senator Steve Saland (R,C Poughkeepsie) today announced that his legislation (S.7328) to allow the Town of Red Hook to establish a community preservation fund for the purpose of protecting open space has passed the Senate.

The legislation will enable the Town of Red Hook to establish a new funding source, through a real estate transfer tax, which can be used to address community concerns such as the acquisition and preservation of open space, and the acquisition and preservation of historic buildings and landscapes.

"Creating this means of preserving open space provides a critical planning tool for Red Hook's local government and will play an important role in the quality of life of the people of Red Hook," said Senator Saland.

"I am pleased to support municipalities seeking to create community preservation funds by passing enabling legislation on their behalf," said Senator Saland. "This legislation will give Red Hook residents the option, through referendum, to create a steady funding source for preserving and improving the rural nature and quality of life of their community. "

The bill has been sent to the Assembly.
