Senator Proposes Legislation To Exclude School Property Tax Rebates From Taxation

Senator Thomas P.Morahanannounced that he has filed legislationto exclude NYS School Property Tax Rebate Checks from taxation.

"As a result of a recent legislation, homeowners in New York State who are enrolled in the STAR or ENHANCED STAR programs will be directly receiving property tax rebate checks. These rebates are presently subject to taxation.This is inappropriate and my new legislation would exclude NYS School Property Tax Rebate checks from taxation, since they are part of the overall STAR program,"said Morahan.

STAR payments traditionally have gone directly to the school districts and are not subject to taxation.
