(Albany, NY) Senator Dale M. Volker today announced that the New York State Senate has confirmed former Erie County Comptroller Nancy A. Naples as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles. Commissioner Naples replaces Raymond Martinez who resigned several weeks ago.

"I consider Governor Pataki nominating Nancy Naples as Commissioner of the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles one of the finest appointments that he has ever done," said Senator Dale M. Volker. "As former Erie County Comptroller, she was never afraid to buck the political system and communicated to the public the truth about county finances during difficult times. I am confident that Commissioner Naples will direct the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles with the same zeal and compassion, and I look forward to working with her in her new capacity."

Commissioner Naples has impeccable credentials. From 1994-2005, she served as the Chief Financial Officer for New York State’s second largest county overseeing a $1.1 billion budget. From 1989- 1994, she was Vice President of Finance and Operations of Joseph J. Naples & Associates, a family-owned surety bond, worker’s compensation and insurance agency serving over 2000 corporate and individual clients, generating premiums of over $65 million annually. Additionally, from 1974-1988, Commissioner Naples worked in the Banking industry, in several senior management positions, where she demonstrated strong analytical and managerial experience. She has also been an active civic leader who has guided Boards of Directors in political, health care, community and education and artistic endeavors.
