Senator Lanza To Introduce Bill Ensuring Only Citizens And Legal Residents Receive Nys Drivers License

Today, Senator Andrew Lanza (R-Staten Island) announced he would introduce legislation to make sure only citizens of the United States and legal residents receive a valid New York State Drivers License issued by the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.

“This bill is a necessary measure to stop an ill-advised order from Governor Spitzer that could jeopardize the safety and security of New Yorkers,” said Senator Lanza. The legislation would require a social security number or proof of authorized presence in the United States to obtain a New York State drivers license.
