Staten Island To Receive Judicial Independence

Governor Spitzer yesterday signed into law legislation sponsored by Senator Andrewand Assemblyman Michael Cusick which willcreate the Thirteenth Judicial District consisting of Richmond County. Currently, Staten Island is part of New York State’s Second Judicial District, comprised of both Richmond County (Staten Island) and Kings County (Brooklyn). This separation from Brooklyn is the culmination of a decades-long quest for democracy and fairness in the election of judges on Staten Island.
