Staten Island Receives First Red Cross Disaster Supplies Container
State Senator Andrew Lanza today joined with theAmerican Red Cross in Greater New York (ARC/GNY), Staten Island Director Suzanne Lutz, representatives from Richmond County Savings Foundation, the Staten Island Foundation, Consolidated Edison, New York Container Terminal and the Department of Education to unveill the first Red Cross disaster supplies container in New York City at Petrides School (715 Ocean Terrace).
The container is storing emergency materials for residents in the Sunnyside section of Staten Island. The container was delivered several months ago by Con Edison and the New York Container Terminal. Arrangements were made by New York Container Terminal Senior Vice President of Operations John Atkins, who is the new advisory board chair of ARC/GNY - Staten Island. The location was secured by the Staten Island Department of Education. The trailer and supplies were donated by the Richmond County Savings Foundation and Staten Island Foundation. Former New York City Council Member and now newly elected State Senator Andrew J. Lanza provided $15,000 in additional funding for the container and supplies for the community. The Red Cross has stored blankets, cots, bottled water, heater meals and comfort kits in the container for use during a local emergency.
