State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman Thomas McKevitt (17th Assembly District) recently served as guest speakers during a recent meeting of the Giovanni Caboto Lodge # 2372, Order Sons of Italy in America in Bellmore.

Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McKevitt discussed their efforts to deliver tax relief to local homeowners. They informed residents about the 2007 New York State Middle Class STAR Rebate Program, which provides a property tax rebate check to middle class homeowners.

Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McKevitt also talked about a property tax relief plan they are supporting, which was passed by the Senate, that would eliminate school property taxes for homeowners over a five year period and freeze the property tax assessments for senior citizens ages 65 and over with an income of under $100,000.

In addition, Senator Fuschillo talked about some of the new laws he authored during the past legislative session, including the first in the nation airline passengers bill of rights, and a new DWI law which will allow prosecutors to charge drunk drivers with homicide.

At the end of the program, Senator Fuschillo and Assemblyman McKevitt answered questions from the audience.
