Senator Fuschillo Announces Property Tax Rebate Application Deadline Extended

Charles J. Fuschillo Jr.

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) announced today that the deadline to file applications for the 2007 STAR Middle Class Property Tax Rebate has been extended from November 30th to December 31st. Homeowners with the Basic STAR exemption must file an application in order to receive their 2007 STAR Middle Class Property Tax Rebate Check.

"This year, we again fought hard to make sure rebate checks were included in the state budget to provide direct property tax relief to middle class families. I urge all families to take advantage of these valuable property tax savings by filing an application before December 31," said Senator Fuschillo.

The Department of Taxation and Finance is sending reminders about the program to homeowners who have not yet applied for their rebate check. Applications can be filed either through the mail or over the Internet.

Basic STAR homeowners who are still waiting for their rebate check but already filed an application do not need to refile.

Rebate checks for seniors with the Enhanced STAR were mailed automatically. These seniors did not need to file an application.

2007 New York State Middle Class STAR Rebate amounts are calculated by the State Department of Taxation and Finance and are based on a combination of factors, including the homeowner’s income bracket, their school district’s tax rate, and the city, village or town where they live. The rebate is in addition to the savings homeowners already receive through the STAR program.

Homeowners who would like additional information about the 2007 New York State Middle Class STAR Rebate program can call the STAR hotline at 1-877-678-2769 or Senator Fuschillo’s office at 516-546-4100.
