Senator Fuschillo Congratulates Chatterton Students On First Place Finish In Statewide Environmental Contest
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently congratulated 5th grade students from Chatterton Elementary School in Merrick for winning first place in the New York State Senate’s annual I*ma*GREEN*nation environmental contest. The students traveled to Albany to participate in a special Senate awards ceremony, where Senator Fuschillo presented them with their first place medals.
The I*ma*GREEN*nation program is a statewide competition for school children in grades one through eight. The goal is to encourage children to develop an awareness of the environment and its resources. There are four different project categories in the program: Arts & Crafts, Science and Technology, Literature, and Video.
The Chatterton students took first place in Division Two (grades 4-5) of the audio/video category for their entry, a music video entitled "All I Want", about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling.
"Teaching students how to protect the environment will help them develop good habits as they get older. The boys and girls from Chatterton worked very hard to make a video that teaches people about the importance of recycling, and we are all very proud that they were chosen as winners from the thousands of entries across the state," said Senator Fuschillo.
