Senator Fuschillo Joins With Local Schools To Tell Children To "say No To Tobacco" On Great American Smokeout

State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), author of New York State’s Clean Indoor Air Act, has joined with local elementary and middle schools to teach children why to "say no to tobacco" as part of today’s Great American Smokeout.

"Tobacco is a potentially deadly addiction which can cause lung cancer, heart disease, emphysema, and other preventable illness," said Senator Fuschillo." With children being the number one target of tobacco companies, we need to reinforce the importance at an early age of staying away from smoking."

To help children understand that smoking is a deadly and dangerous addiction, Senator Fuschillo joined with elementary and middle schools within his Senate district and distributed over eight thousand "no smoking pledge packets" to students. The packets inform children about the harmful effects of smoking, and contain a pledge that they can sign along with their parents to promise to commit to a healthy, tobacco free lifestyle.

Schools from the Merrick, Wantagh, Seaford, Massapequa, Copiague, Lindenhurst, Freeport, Roosevelt, Baldwin, North Merrick, and North Bellmore school districts participated in the program.

As part of the program, Senator Fuschillo will also be visiting with students at Levy-Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick tomorrow morning to teach them the dangers of tobacco and why it is important to lead a healthy lifestyle.
