Senator Fuschillo: Look For Signs Showing Location Of Defibrillators In Public Buildings

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. today reminded New Yorkers that when they enter a public building, they should be on the lookout for a sign indicating the location of an automated external defibrillator (AED). A new state law now in effect that Senator Fuschillo sponsored requires all public buildings and facilities that are already required by law to have AEDs on premises, to also post a sign indicating where the lifesaving device can be found.

Senator Fuschillo explained, “The signs are to help qualified rescuers, for instance off-duty physicians, EMTs and others trained to operate an AED, to be able to locate a defibrillator as soon as possible in the event of a cardiac emergency.”

The clearly marked signs can be found at the entrance of public buildings and facilities, including schools; health clubs, spas and fitness centers with memberships of 500 people or more; and places of public assembly with an occupancy of 1,000 people or more, including stadiums, ballparks, civic centers and concert halls.
