"In urging the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to approve a fare hike that will greatly increase costs for commuters, Governor Spitzer has again shown a blatant disregard for the residents of Long Island.

Under the MTA’s proposed plan, hardworking Long Island families will face yet another fare increase. Already since 1995, Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) fares have risen by 42 percent. The MTA should not be balancing its budget on the backs of the 300,000 people who ride LIRR each day."
