Statement By Senator Craig M. Johnson On Comptroller Dinapoli's Decision To Divest State Pension Funds From Companies From That Conduct Business With Iran
"I applaud Comptroller DiNapoli for taking this courageous step to make sure that our money will no longer go toward funding this dangerous nation," said Senator Johnson, (D-Nassau), who in June introduced Iranian divestment legislation in the Senate. "This regime's continued sponsorship of terrorist organizations; pursuit of a nuclear program; inhumane treatment of dissidents; and its president's proclamation that Israel should be 'wiped off the map,' have shown that Iran is a destabilizing force in the Middle East and on the world stage."
"It is my hope that in New York joining other states in this socially responsible investment strategy, we will start to see this economic pressure that will result in some real reforms in Iran."
