Skelos Honors 5 Towns Public And Non-public School Teacher As His 2007 Woman Of Distinction

New York State Senate Deputy Majority Leader Dean G. Skelos (R-Rockville Centre) today announced Mrs. Rebecca Isseroff as his 2007 New York State "Woman of Distinction" at the New York State Senate’s 10th Annual "Women of Distinction" ceremony in Albany. Rebecca Isseroff teaches Chemistry at Lawrence High School, Rambam Mesivta High School, Stella K. Abraham High School and the Hebrew Academy of the Five Towns.

"I am extremely proud to honor Rebecca as my 2007 Woman of Distinction," said Senator Skelos. "The recent success and achievements by her students in the Intel Science Talent Search shows her outstanding ability as a teacher and her impressive ability to capture the interest of her students. Rebecca’s dedication to teaching young minds in the field of chemistry will produce the future scientific leaders New York needs in the growing hi-tech global ecomony."

Mrs. Isseroff has been teaching Regents and AP Chemistry for nine years. Using innovative teaching methods, Rebecca Isseroff combines humor, music and creative demonstrations to encourage student interest in the exciting field of chemistry. This year, Mrs. Isseroff had 6 students honored as semifinalists for the Intel Science Talent Search and she had 1 finalist. Rebecca Isseroff also mentors students on research projects in the state of the art field of nanoparticles.

Rebecca spends her summers at SUNY Stony Brook conducting research in Materials Science with high school students. Mrs. Isseroff holds a Gruss Excellence in Teaching Secular Studies Award and the American Chemical Society Middle States Excellence in Teaching Chemistry Award. She also is the 2005 recipient of the New York Section of the American Chemical Society's Nichols Foundation High School Chemistry Teacher Award. This honor is presented to an educator who has made outstanding contributions to chemical education at the secondary school level. Mrs. Rebecca Isseroff received a BS degree in Chemistry from Brooklyn College and a Masters Degree in secondary education for Chemistry from Adelphi University.
