Senator Farley Announces Local Winners In Environment Contest

State Senator Hugh T. Farley (R, C - Schenectady) met and awarded 10 Draper Middle School students on May 15th with Statewide awards for theirfor environmental awareness through the New York State Senate's 16th annual "I*MA*GREEN*NATION" competition.

The Draper Middle School students won first place in Science and Technology Division IV. The students were: Jasius Birch, Phoebe Hester, Danielle Livingston, Candare Nadler, Autumn Pettit, Shawn Notar, Jeffrey Thayer, Karissa Ballmes, Alex Hyson and Kayla Warren.

"Our local winners competed against hundreds of students from throughout New York State, and their imaginative ideas and displays were judged to be among the best in this year's contest," Senator Farley said. "I know that our entire community shares my pride in these young people who have shown a remarkable awareness and concern for the important environmental challenges that we all face to make our State a better, cleaner place."

The Statewide competition was for students from first through eighth grade and involved school presentations of ideas and solutions to the problems of solid waste reduction and encouraging recycling. Entries were judged for imagination, subject matter and creativity.

Students from Corinth Central School, Saratoga County, and Tecler Elementary School, Montgomery County, also participated in the competition and came to a reception and awards ceremony, along with Draper, at the State Capitol on May 15th. The winning entries, as well as all other participating projects, were on display.
