Openeing Of Irondequoit Lakeside Multi-Use Trail Commemorated

James S. Alesi

Senator Jim Alesi (R- Perinton) today joined local government leaders to formally mark the completion of the Irondequoit Lakeside Multi-Use Trail. Coupled with the reopening of Durand Eastman Beach, this stretch along Lake Ontario now maintains an entirely different character then it did two years ago.

The 4.7 mile trail effectively links three important recreational destinations on the northern shore of both the Town of Irondequoit and the City of Rochester.

The trail, which runs from Irondequoit Bay Outlet Marine Park to the O'Rourke Bridge, provides an alternative transportation route for joggers, walkers and cyclists. The two most visible construction components of the project were a new 13 foot-wide asphalt trail that runs through the northern part of Durand Eastman Park; and also, a timber boardwalk/bridge crossing of Tamarack Swamp.
