STATEMENT BY SENATOR JIM ALESI

CSX Trail Derailment

I would like to publicly acknowledge the tremendous work that the Village of East Rochester has done in the midst of the unfortunate accident; when a freight train derailed in the village last night, pushing eight train cars onto a street below an overpass.

Mayor David Bonacchi, the East Rochester Police Department, the Monroe County Sheriff's Department, all State & County Agencies, first responders, CSX, and the residents of East Rochester have shown great character and cooperation while the cleanup and investigation of this matter continues.

As a Senator who grew up in East Rochester, I stand ready to help the village and its residents in any way possible to rectify the situation. We must be focused on keeping our neighborhoods safe, as well as assisting the railroad cleanup, which is vital to our economic well-being.
