Senator Alesi Honors Lions’ Efforts To Prevent Blindness

Senator Jim Alesi (R- Perinton) joined in honoring members of New York's Lions Clubs as they mark 90 years of promoting programs and efforts to prevent blindness and assist those who are visually impaired.

Senator Alesi met with 12 New York Lions Governors representing every corner of the state and presented them with a Senate Resolution honoring the 90th anniversary of the community-based service group, and commemorating the annual Lions Walk for Sight, to be held April 21. Rochester Lions Governor JoAnn Rodgers was in attendance.

"Blindness currently afflicts more than 37 million people around the world," said Senator Alesi. "Every year, Lions raise funds for cataract surgeries, treatments for river blindness, construction of eye clinics and the education of eye care professionals who have helped millions of people around the world prevent and treat blindness. These men and women are extremely dedicated and I am very proud to be able to join in recognizing and celebrating their hard work."

On Walk for Sight Day, dedicated Lions members across this state join hands with those around the world to raise public awareness of this chronic problem, and raise funds to help prevent and treat blindness in our communities, and for people everywhere. The event is an effort to raise $150 million to expand the work of the original Lions’ worldwide program to combat preventable blindness.
