Senator Alesi To Serve On Youth Violence Task Force

James S. Alesi

Senator Jim Alesi (R-Perinton) today announced that he will continue to serve as a member of the Senate Task Force on Youth Violence in the Entertainment Industry. The task force, which was created in 1999, will focus its efforts on the effects of explicitly violent interactive/video games and their impact on youth who play the games on a frequent basis.

"We live in a world where outside terror has become the focal point of our everyday concerns, but we must not lose our focus on the causes of crime from within our own society," said Senator Alesi, who is a member of the Senate Committee on Crime and Crime Victims. "Among those causes could very well be violence that is the result of extremely violent interactive/video games."

The task force has been charged with reviewing a broad spectrum of issues related to video violence and determining what steps could be taken to curb access and exposure to explicitly violent and exploitive games by minors.
