Jobs Grants Announced In Herkimer

Jobs and businesses in Herkimer County will be boosted as a result of $145,000 in state senate economic development awards announced today by State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Milford) at a ceremony in Herkimer. He was joined by representatives of area businesses and local officials, including Herkimer County Legislature Chairman Len Hendrix and IDA Director Mark Feane.

"There are two things on people's minds in our area: high property taxes and the economy," said Senator Seward. "We're moving to assist local businesses to be competitive so that they will stay in the Mohawk Valley, expand in the Mohawk Valley, and compete effectively right here in New York."

"Senator Seward is a great partner is helping us stabilize, create and grow local jobs and businesses here in Herkimer County," said Chairman Len Hendrix. "The grants will help key local businesses that have a history of investment in Herkimer County."

The following businesses were tapped to receive grants:

PEMS Tool & Machine 30,000 AS9100 certification
Gehring-Tricot Corp 20,000Equipment

The senate funding was set aside in the 2006-2007 state budget. It will be administered by the Herkimer County IDA, and is reimbursed to the company following its expenditure of funds for the intended purpose. The contracts are reviewed by the state comptroller and the attorney general.
