Seward Announces Ilion Grant
Residents of the Village of Ilion could see improved village parks and enhancements to the community swimming pool as the result of a $20,000 state budget award announced by Senator James L. Seward, (R-C-I/Milford).
"Our community parks and playgrounds improve the quality of life in a community for residents, children and visitors," Senator Seward said. "Each time we can offer some state funding assistance to a small village or rural community we reduce pressure on local finances and provide something tangible for what people pay in state income, sales and use taxes."
"The village thanks Senator Seward for securing these funds that will be used to enhance facilities at Russell Park, the Ilion Municipal Swimming Pool, the Marina Park, and other recreational sites within the community," said Ilion Mayor Mark Cushman.
The funds are reappropriated budget dollars from 2001 and represent no new state spending.
"These were old funds that hadn't been used and I was able to lasso them for Ilion's parks program and pool," Seward said.
The funding will be administered by the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
