Seward's Committees Include Ag, Education
Two top areas of concern in the 51st senatorial district will be the focus of committee assignments received by State Senator James L. Seward, R-C- I/Milford for the new senate session beginning this month.
Seward was appointed to the Senate Standing Committees on Agriculture and Education, which he said are key to the economy and quality of life in the 51st district.
"We have a lot of farms and agricultural-related businesses in the 51st district," Seward said, "and ensuring that the state invests in our schools and teachers will be a priority in the education area. I am excited about serving on these two committees for a new term, and look forward to developing policy and funding that helps our farmers and ensures a good education for our students."
Seward was also appointed to the finance, rules, higher education and transportation committees. The finance committee guides development of the state budget, and the rules committee reviews legislation bound for a vote on the senate floor at the close of the session.
Seward was also named majority whip of the senate Republican conference, a post that puts him in the top leadership of the senate.
Seward is serving the 51st district for an eleventh term after his re-election in 2006.
