Bonacic To Receive Prestigious Higher Education Award

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) will be presented with this year’s "Friend of Community Colleges" Award by the New York Community College Trustees of the State of New York during their 53rd Annual Conference. The theme of this year’s Conference is "Working Together for Community Colleges" and will be held at the Saratoga Hotel and Conference Center.

The "Friend of Community College" Award is one of the highest awards of the College Trustees bestowed upon a non-Trustee of the College. It is presented to individuals, who through their actions have significantly advanced the cause of community college education in New York State on a statewide basis.

"This is truly an honor," stated Senator Bonacic. "Our community college system is truly a phenomenal system. Throughout New York State the community college system is the difference between an apartment renter or a homeowner, a greeter at a local superstore or a trade skill or business job. It means a better future for our children and more stable communities."

Senator Bonacic continued, "As one who represents three community colleges, I see first hand that the Presidents are energetic, key leaders within counties and the region, and far more than the "academics" that college presidents are sometimes considered to be. It is truly gratifying to partner with the community colleges in my District on a number of projects that truly improve the quality of life for not only students, but the communities at large as well."

Sullivan County Community College President, Dr. Howard Golladay, who nominated Senator Bonacic for the Trustees Award, stated, "The Senator believes that the availability of affordable, quality education is crucial for New Yorkers to succeed in a global work environment." She continued, "Senator Bonacic is passionate in his goal to provide quality education for all of his constituents, and thus most qualified to be named this year’s Friend of Community Colleges by the New York Community College Trustees of the State University of New York."

Senator Bonacic concluded, "I am distinctly honored to receive this award, but I also appreciate the work of the Trustees, Presidents, faculty, staff and students of our Community Colleges. I look forward to continuing to support public higher education in New York State."
