Bonacic Secures $750,000 To Help Develop Shovel Ready Property In Saugerties
State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mt. Hope), has secured a second $750,000 grant for the Town of Saugerties to help make infrastructure improvements along Kings Highway. That area has been identified as among the locations where "shovel ready" sites could be developed, if infrastructure was in place.
This grant brings to a total of $1.5 million Bonacic has secured for the project. "Shovel ready sites are key to creating jobs. Kings Highway has proximity to the Thruway, I-84, I-90, Stewart Airport, and Albany. It is well suited for economic development," Bonacic said.
Town of Saugerties Supervisor Greg Helsmoortel had requested Bonacic work to secure the funding. Bonacic met with Helsmoortel, County Legislator Dean Fabiano, and Town Councilmembers Nancy Campbell and Bruce Leighton in support of the funding. He had also previously spoken to Councilman Fred Costello, Jr. and Legislator Joe Roberti, Jr., both of whom indicated their support for the funding.
In addition to the State funds, Federal funding has also been secured for the project by Congressman Maurice Hinchey. Helsmoortel also is seeking County funding, which he expects to be granted in the near future. "Upgrading the infrastructure along Kings Highway is an example of Federal, State, and local cooperation. Together, we will create opportunities to expand the tax base and create jobs, all with strong local support," concluded Senator Bonacic.
