Senator Bonacic Honors Sullivan County Veteran

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope), in an effort to call attention to the selfless sacrifices of our State’s veterans, nominated Sullivan County native William Brustman to be inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.

"As the War on Terror rages on, it is important that we recognize that there are many New Yorkers who served our nation with distinction, courage, and honor, often paying the ultimate price for our freedom," stated Senator Bonacic.

Senator Bonacic continued, "William Brustman no only has served our Nation with distinction and valor, he continued to advocate on behalf of fellow veterans here at home upon retiring from the Army. His tireless efforts do not go unnoticed, but you will never hear William toot his own horn."

William Brustman was a mortar platoon leader for the 9th Infantry Division’s Italian Campaign and with the Berlin Brigade during the occupation of Germany in World War II.

During the Korean War, he served as Company Commander in the 1st Calvary Division.

During Vietnam, Colonel Brustman served as an advisor to the Vietnamese Army.

For his numerous acts of gallantry on the battlefield, Colonel Brustman was presented with the Bronze Star and Combat Infantry Badges. He holds the distinction of being one of a select group of individuals to have been awarded the Combat Infantry Badge Third Award.

The New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame pays tribute to all who serve, but also singles out for special recognition veterans whose service benefits our community and improves the quality of life for many people. "It is with great pride that the State Senate has recognized our very own William Brustman for his distinguished serve to our Nation," concluded Senator Bonacic.
