Senator Bonacic Invites Students To Enter Contest

State Senator John J. Bonacic (R/I/C - Mount Hope) has reached out to the schools in the 42nd Senate District to encourage students and teachers to enter into the Senate’s Sixteenth Annual I*MA*GREEN*NATION Competition. The contest encourages student awareness of Environmental issues.

The State Senate-sponsored competition is open to students in grades one through eight, and includes an awards presentation at the State Capitol in Albany on Tuesday, May 15, 2007. Winners will receive award medals, view submissions by their fellow students from around the State and have the opportunity to tour the Capitol.

"This competition encourages our students to take an interest in their environment and to use their imagination and creativity to identify challenges facing our communities and offer their own insights on possible solutions," stated Senator Bonacic. "Participation is enjoyable yet challenging and a wonderful opportunity for children to make a difference in our quality of life."

Senator Bonacic said that last year, more than 600 projects were submitted that explored issues and solutions relating to solid waste and recycling. Over 1,200 students and their teachers traveled to Albany to participate in the I*MA*GREEN*NATION events.

Schools interested in participating in this year’s event must register by March 2nd and the entry deadline is March 30th. Registration forms were sent to the Principals of the schools in the 42nd Senate District, however, if additional forms are required, schools may contact Senator Bonacic’s office at (518) 455-3181.

"Each year, I look forward to seeing the bright and imaginative projects submitted by the students in our area. Just as our children are important to our future, they are equally important to helping us foster a healthy environment for generations to come," concluded Senator Bonacic.
