Senator Flanagan And Councilman Wehrheim Celebrate The Growth Of The Nesconset Park
Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) joined with Town of Smithtown Councilman Edward R. Wehrheim to view the developing Village Green Gazebo and the adjoining areas. The two elected officials were joined by Nesconset Chamber of CommercePresident Louis Scotti and Executive Director Al Hornberger who were on hand to thank Senator Flanagan for the $20,000 in state funding he secured for their continuing efforts with the park.
The park, which is located next to the future home of Nesconset branch of the Smithtown library, is part of a growing complex that will serve as a meeting and community center for the entire Nesconset community.
In addition to the library and the gazebo area is a growing athletic center that Councilman Wehrheim has been instrumental in putting together. That complex will have two athletic fields, a hike and bike trail, tennis courts and a modular playground.
"With the continued assistance of Senator Flanagan and the cooperation of the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce, we were able to develop a wonderful educational and recreational facility in the Nesconset community," said Councilman Wehrheim.
At the Village Green park, the Chamber has used $12,000 of the funding to offset the cost of renovating the gazebo, which serves as the center point of the beautiful park. That work, which has been completed, was necessary due to repeated vandalism at the site.
To help protect the public facilities from future vandalism, the Chamber allocated a portion of the state grant to offset the cost of enhancing the security of the park. This includes the purchase and installation of security equipment and improvements to the lighting system.
The remainder of the funding will be used to install a sprinkler system at the community park.
"The Nesconset Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to improving the quality of life of the residents and businesses of our community. The Village Green Gazebo Project is a great example of the business leaders in the community working with our elected officials who are sensitive and responsive to the needs of the community. We want to thank Senator Flanagan and Councilman Werheim for their efforts on behalf of the Nesconset Community," added Dr. Louis Scotti, President, Nesconset Chamber of Commerce.
"This park is a great meeting place for the community and the coming improvements will make it something all Nesconset residents can enjoy. I am proud to partner with the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce in this project and look forward to working with Councilman Wehrheim to continue growing this entire library complex for the residents," stated Senator Flanagan.
