Senator Flanagan Announces Enhanced Security At Nissequogue River State Park

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) today joined with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to remind residents that the buildings on the Nissequogue River State Park are off limits to all members of the general public.

To reinforce that message and increase the safety of the area during Halloween, the parks department has issued restrictions on travel within the boundaries of the park and specifically on Kings Park Boulevard:

Beginning 4:00 PM on October 31, 2007 increased patrols of the New York State Park Police and New York State Park staff will begin.

At 8:00 PM until 4:00 AM on November 1, 2007 only vehicles with appropriate reason will be authorized to travel this roadway.

This restriction is in place to ensure the health and safety of individuals seeking access to the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center buildings.

Additional patrols will continue until 8:00 AM on Thursday, November 1st.

Following this period of time, the New York State Park Police and State Park staff will continue to patrol and monitor the Kings Park Psychiatric Center grounds and buildings on a continuing basis.
