Senator Flanagan Visits AHRC Work Center

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) recently visited the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC) Suffolk Chapter's Work Center in Bohemia. Senator Flanagan's visit was arranged after he was invited by AHRC vocational participant Cristen Mich (pictured at right with Senator Flanagan).

According to the AHRC, work centers like the one in Bohemia provide job training and simulate work conditions for more than five hundred adults with developmental disabilities. Work comes from subcontracts with local businesses.

Senator Flanagan was also given a tour of AHRC's children's school and the day habilitation program during his visit.

"This is a very impressive facility and training program and I thank Cristen for inviting me here. The work and the growth that is experienced here isa great example of what can be accomplished when the private sector cares enough to join in a program like this and I applaud the local businesses who are taking part," stated Senator Flanagan. "This is a great program for our community."

Suffolk AHRC is a not-for-profit organization which provides a lifetime of programs and services to children and adults with developmental disabilities. Currently, there are more than 2,500 children and adults receiving educational, vocational, residential and respite services through AHRC's 35 facilities.
