Senator Flanagan Welcomes Members Of The Guide Dog Foundation To His Legislative Update Show

John J. Flanagan

Senator John J. Flanagan (2nd Senate District) welcomed a group from the Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind to his weekly Legislative Update television show. On the show, which will be airing this coming week on Cablevision’s public access channel, Senator Flanagan is joined by Chief Executive Officer Wells Jones, Foundation instructor Sebastian McPherson and guide dog Tomme, a one-and-a-half-year old black labrador.

The program will air throughout the coming week on Cablevision’s public access channel and can be viewed byvisiting the Legislative Update section.

The Guide Dog Foundation for the Blind, according to its web site, has provided guide dogs free of charge to people who seek enhanced mobility and independence since 1946. The show with Senator Flanagan focused on the organization’s efforts to train dogs that will assist physicians working with veterans who were injured during their service. Senator Flanagan invited the group to his show after meeting Striker, a two-year old Black Labrador Retriever, as the dog headed down to the Walter Reed Medical Center in January.

Senator Flanagan has been a constant supporter and friend to the Smithtown based foundation and has just recently announced that he will secure $15,000 in state funding to help offset the cost of their important work.

"The dedication that these individuals and animals display everyday is truly needed and inspirational. I am glad that they were able to join me for this show and I look forward to working with them in the future," stated Senator Flanagan.

Due to the fact that the organization operates without government funding, the organization relies on the generous contributions of individuals, corporations, foundations, businesses, and service/fraternal clubs to operate.

Senator Flanagan’s Legislative Update is a weekly program which provides viewers with an inside look at the workings of the New York State Legislature. The show airs at various times on Cablevision public access channels in the Towns of Brookhaven, Huntington and Smithtown.
