Senator Flanagan Works To Get Litrim Comment Period Extended

John J. Flanagan

Senator John Flanagan (2nd Senate District) joined with the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to announce an extension in the comment period regarding the proposed Long Island Truck Rail Inter Modal Facility (LITRIM). This change, which was made following Senator Flanagan’s formal written request to the NYSDOT, has extended the project’s public comment period 61 days to September 24.

"Area residents and all interested parties deserve the ability to fully air their concerns and recommendations to the department and to have their voices heard. The extension of this important public comment period will accomplish this and that is truly in the best interests of everyone involved," stated Senator Flanagan.

The proposed LITRIM project, which is planned for the grounds of the former Pilgrim State Hospital, seeks to enhance the use of rail in delivering goods to Long Island.

"As the original July 25 comment period deadline approaches, the Department of Transportation continues to receive correspondence regarding the LITRIM project," NYSDOT Regional Director Subi Chakraborti said. "We need to be certain that all members of the Long Island community have ample opportunity to provide input on the proposed project plans to help the Department address issues that are being raised."

According to the NYSDOT, all comments regardless of their submission dates will be reviewed. All comments will be addressed and incorporated in the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS). Residents can access a draft version of theEnvironmental Impact Statement (DEIS)by clicking here.
