NYS Senator John L. Sampson Partners With The Visiting Nurse Regional Health Care Services To Bring Free Influenza (flu) Vaccines To The Community

On, Wednesday, December 5th, 2007, State Senator John L. Sampson (D-Brooklyn), in conjunction with the Visiting Nurse Regional Health Care Services (VNR) will be offering FREE influenza (Flu) shots. The Flu shots will be administered to children 6 years and over (accompanied by a parent), and adults over 50, at the Christian Cultural Center, 1400 Linden Boulevard, between Chester & Bristol Streets, from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

"The Flu is a respiratory illness that spreads mainly from person to person through coughing and sneezing. The virus can be passed on to others even before signs and symptoms are evident, therefore, it is important that action against this contagious disease is taken. Widespread outbreaks of the flu do not usually appear until December, and peaks normally by March. However, public health officials state that the vaccine offers up to 6 months of protection," said Senator Sampson.

"I would like to thank VNR and Rev. Dr. Bernard and the staff of the Christian Cultural Center for offering our residents the opportunity to receive these necessary flu vaccines. As the ranking Democrat on the Senate Health Committee I regularly see the difference in the quality of life of local residents, and particularly seniors to whom we make the vaccine available," said Senator Sampson.
