Immigration And Civil Rights
Senator Serrano hosted a Civil Rights and Immigration panel discussion on April 28. The event was organized by Attorney General Andrew M. Cuomo as part of the 20th Annual Somos El Futuro conference.
"Far too often, new immigrants avoid reporting crimes committed against them for fear of retribution from immigration officials," said the Senator.
"It's very important to understand that the Attorney General's office is not interested in the immigration status of the individual, but is wholeheartedly committed to protecting the civil rights of immigrants in New York State."
The event also featured representatives from the Civil Rights, Labor and Consumer Frauds Bureaus of the Attorney General's Office.
