Serrano Co-sponsors Arts Conference At Moma
Senator Serrano joined with Senator Liz Krueger to host an Arts Conference entitled "Contemporary Marketing and Audience Development" at the Museum of Modern Art in Midtown Manhattan.
"The arts have already proven an economic engine for New York City . Now we must appreciate the power of the arts at the state level," said Senator Serrano.
"Because they create linkages with so many different sectors of the economy, the arts are an essential tool to revitalize Upstate New York, and empower local communities here in the City."
He called for a substantial increase in state funding, complemented by legislative efforts to protect arts education, and establish affordable housing and healthcare programs for artists as well.
Introductory remarks at the conference were provided by Richard J. Schwartz, Chairman of the New York State Council on the Arts. He was followed by Diane Ragsdale, an associate at The Andrew Mellon Foundation, who delivered the keynote address. Click here to read the transcript of her speech.
